The normal operation of a pressurized hydraulic installation can be altered in multiple ways, such as the unexpected stop of a pumping station, the abrupt closure of a valve or the rupture of a pipe. These actions generate what we call hydraulic transients, the consequences of which can be devastating in the installation, so it is necessary to have qualified professionals capable of foreseeing, analysing and solving the problems that these hydraulic transients can cause.
The best way to understand and analyze the hydraulic transients produced in a system is through their simulation. For this reason, in this course you will work with Allievi, a professional and open source software for the calculation and simulation of hydraulic transients that will allow you to represent graphs and animations of the different parameters to be taken into account in a system. In this way, you will be able to easily assimilate the concepts and implications associated with the water hammer phenomenon.
A course specially designed for the calculation of hydraulic transients. A complex issue but at the same time necessary for the correct design of facilities. A series of practical exercises will allow you to learn first-hand about the risks of water hammer, as well as the most appropriate measures for protection of facilities. Given the complexity of hydraulic transients, basic knowledge of pressure hydraulics is necessary to get the most out of the course.
Why You Should Attend?
Water distribution modeling is the latest technology in a process of advancement that began more than two millennia ago when the Minoans – based on the Island of Crete in Greece - constructed the first piped water conveyance system. Today, water distribution modeling is a critical part of designing and operating water distribution systems that are capable of serving communities reliably, efficiently, and safely, both now and in the future. The availability of increasingly sophisticated and accessible models allows these goals to be realized more fully than ever before. This among other applications of water distribution system modeling are what makes this course a must attend. In this course, participants will get to understand in more detail what a water distribution system (WDS) entails – its anatomy and analyses, the steps involved in the modeling process of WDS and the applications of a WDS model.
Who Should Attend
Municipal/District engineers, developers and planners, engineering consultants, hydraulic engineers, technicians, technologists, designers and other technical personnel who are responsible for or oversee water distribution facilities.
What You Will Receive
For this course all participants will receive:
• Training handout, Software and Manual (Electronic Copy)
Why You Should Attend?
Wastewater is a community’s spent water. It contains contaminants such as suspended solids, biodegradable dissolved organic compounds, inorganic solids, nutrients, metals and pathogenic microorganisms. These contaminants can be a source of pollution to the environment or a resource for various purposes. The traditional aim of wastewater treatment is to enable it to be disposed safely without being a danger to public health and without polluting watercourses or causing other nuisance. When it is looked at as a resource, its treatment can aim to recover energy, nutrients, water and other valuable resources from it. However, for wastewater to be recycled, it needs to be treated first
to ensure that its quality is fit for the designated uses, such as irrigation, industrial processes, toilet flushing, ground water recharge etc.
This course aims to discuss the various treatment technologies and their design for producing reuse quality water from wastewater. The course will largely cover topics including the basic philosophy of wastewater treatment, principles of various wastewater treatment units, conventional treatment systems and advanced treatment processes. Various techniques for sampling, analyzing and monitoring the operation and maintenance of the treatment units will be discussed in detail. The process for development of wastewater operation and maintenance manual and wastewater risk abatement plan will be discussed. Participants will have instilled in them comprehensive knowledge and understanding on design and operation and maintenance of common and evolving technologies for water reclamation and reuse.
Who Should Attend?
The course will be beneficial for plant operators of all classes, design engineers, technical managers or directors and professionals involved with wastewater management. Regulators and policy makers are strongly encouraged to consider taking advantage of this unique application orientated course.
What You Will Receive
Course notes/handout (electronic copy).
